Bald Head Light (Old Baldy Lighthouse) Originally built in 1817, Old Baldy Lighthouse is North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse. It is located on Bald Head Island, at the junction of the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Over the years it has become known as “Old Baldy” and no longer served as an official navigational aid. Today it is part of the Smith Island Museum, commemorating more than 400 years of the Cape Fear Region’s maritime history. |
